20 seconds of insane courage

If we only have one life to live, why not make it extraordinary? Why settle for ordinary? Why not “live a life worthy of our calling, for you have been called by God” (Eph 4:1).

There is a movie that came out a couple years ago called “We Bought A Zoo.” For the most part it was just an okay movie. But there is one scene in it that shook me to my core:

Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage”is an unforgettable line. It’s not just a great line for an actor to say. It can change the plot line of your life. Twenty seconds of insane courage. That’s all it takes.

Twenty seconds when a little boy said, “I will face this giant.” Twenty seconds when a disciple said, “I will step off this boat.” Twenty seconds when a short man said, “I will climb this tree.” Twenty seconds when a queen said, “I was born for such a time as this.” Twenty seconds when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.”

I think you can see the pattern. In your life, all it takes is twenty seconds of insane courage to step out in faith, to believe God’s promises, and to live an extraordinary life.

I once spoke 20 secondswith an amazing missionary couple that was in Sudan during the genocide. They told me a story of hiding in a church with hundreds of kids while armies surrounded the place. They told me how fear gripped them. But somehow, by some supernatural miracle, they felt a wave of courage and bravery. So they walked out and on their knees spoke with the army, risking their lives!

I can’t even imagine what they were thinking. Because of the seemingly insane act of courage God intervened and the army left them and the kids alone. I remember them describing the overwhelming fear they felt before and after, thinking “these missionaries are crazy.”

Obviously that is an extreme example. But I do believe God can make us brave. He can empower us. He can inspire us. Then, we need to make an extraordinary decision.

In what area of your life do you need twenty seconds of insane courage? Pray for God to make you brave? Listen to this song for inspiration -

BTW Isabela does matter. Apologies to all the moms who accosted me after service. I was joking. Babies matter. I’m running for POTUS with that as my mantra – “Vote for Rey Diaz… because babies matter.”
