As Created Creators.

TLC Lesson for the Week of September 9, 2006

Genesis 1

THE CONDENSED VERSION (For groups with limited time or for family dinner discussions.)

Overview: Genesis means “origin,” “beginning,” and the book of Genesis is about beginnings.  In it, God lays the groundwork for our ongoing relationship with Him.  Genesis begins with God’s creation of the world and its most blessed occupants, people (male and female).  This fall Pastor Tim is going to teach lead us on a journey as we explore the Book of Genesis and what it reveals to us about how we should be living our lives.  This first lesson is about creation.  We have been designed in the image of the creator so we were created to create.  Not only create but to enjoy what we create and to bless it.

.           Read:  Genesis 1:1-5

Discuss:  Share with one another something you are longing to create.  What is holding you back?  What might be a first step for you?

Pray:  Share prayer requests with one another.  Be open and honest asking God to release you from whatever may be blocking you from being the creator He has designed you to be.  (Let people share their prayer requests without taking time to give them advise or try to solve their creative dilemma.)

OPTIONAL OPENING ICE BREAKER

(As we try to draw closer together as a group, it is helpful to learn interesting facts about each other.  Ice Breakers can help us know each other better.)

As a child, what was you favorite “make believe” game to play?

INTRODUCTION

Read through the “Overview” in the “Condensed Version” box above.

DISCUSSION THOUGHTS

1.      Read Genesis 1:1-5 in two different translations of the Bible.  What does it mean to create?  What was the first thing that God saw as good about His creation?  How important is light to us as creators?

2.      Read Genesis 1:27-28.  Pastor Tim in His message this weekend said that we should “Accept ourselves as created creators.”  What does that mean to you?  Why is creativity important for us to have a “Lifestyle of Blessing”? (See Ephesians 210)

3.      God gives us an incredible promise in Revelation 3:8.  What door has he opened for you recently?  How does His promise enable you to be free to be more creative with your life?

4.      Read Genesis 1:22-23.  Pastor Tim’s second point was that “we have the power to bless or curse what we create.”  What do you find yourself doing most often – “blessing or cursing” you own creations?

5.      In Jeremiah 31:23 God is making a promise to the broken nation of Israel.  What does this promise mean to us today?  What happens when we bless other in the midst of our own challenges?

6.      In Genesis 1:27 God tells us we are created in His likeness (image).  Read Ephesians 4:24 -32.  How should “created creators” be acting?  What things might be blocking your creativity?

CLOSING PRAYER

1.  Take time to share creative blessings with one another.  (How has God allowed you to be blessedly creative this week.)

2. Share prayers and praises with one another.

3. Pray that God blesses people in our church financially so that we will be able to raise the additional pledges we need to complete our building project on time.  Also, pray for good weather so that our project does not get “rained out.”

4.  Pray for the Lord to bring new people to our church – both our Redmond Campus and our North Campus services.
